Sequel

I was very excited, yet somewhat reserved, to read this article about the making of a "Dark Crystal" sequel. The original film is absolutely wonderful.. Of course I'm a big fan of Jim Henson and Brian Froud. I usually don't get too excited about sequels, especially of a film I am particularly fond of... They just never seem to measure up. That being said, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it retains it's beauty and magic.

You have some very nice stuff but use html in your header so people can click directly on your url rather than have to type it into their browser.

I can't believe I haven't heard about this! I spent 5 years combing pawn shops for the first movie, when it was shelved during the 90's. Very sweet.

My husband got me the collector's edition a few years ago- it's great.. came with Henson's journal, a film cell.. and some other really great stuff. It's just a great story with wonderful puppetry.

Thanks for the post. I hadn't heard about it. I'm with you. Sequels are hit and miss and after over 20 years I hope they are able to capture the same "magic" as the original.

I adore The Dark Crystal, but a good part of its magic comes from the fact that they didn't have CGI back then -- so it looks *real* in a certain way.

I'm worried they won't capture that in a sequel.

Yeah, I agree.. Hopefully if they do use it (which i'm sure they will)they won't go overboard with the CGI.

What is it with grownups who can't leave a piece of art or a happy ending alone? :P

I attended a presentation last month at Comic Con International in San Diego in which Lisa Henson and Kirk Thatcher talked about the movie. The plan is to use puppets for the characters and CGI for large virtual sets.
